Kokudankokuya — one scent record, sizes as separately sellable units
Where the variant stops was drawn at the start: the scent is one product record and the sizes are separately sellable units. Price and stock hang off the size, so adding a size never means opening a second product. The other half is findability. Beside the category tree, scent family and note open a second axis, letting a customer who cannot name the brand start from character and work down to a product. A perfume attaches to several notes at once, which puts the same product in front of different search intents. The scale asked for no separate search or cache layer: the store runs on Laravel and MySQL, with few moving pieces.
